November
26, 2005 - Okay, so here's
another one. This little dandy is by Trace Adkins:
"Got
it goin' on
Like Donkey Kong
And whoo-wee
Shut my mouth, slap your grandma
There outta be a law
Get the Sheriff on the phone
Lord have mercy, how's she even get them britches
on
With that honky tonk badonkadonk
(Ooh, that's what I'm talkin' bout right there,
honey)"
Good
thing for Trace he didn't actually write that
song. This gem was created by Randy Houser,
Dallas Davidson & Jamey Johnson. Can you
imagine them all sitting around a table.. "Hmmm..Randy..okay
we got 'She's got it goin on...' now..what could
come next?...hmmm" And then Dallas jumps
up with excitement and screams "LIKE DONKEY
KONG!!" "YEAH" they all scream
with glee. And then Jamey Johnson, wanting to
make his own contribution shouts "SLAP
YOUR GRANDMA!!" "YEE-FREAKIN' HAW,
JAMEY - that's a winner!" they all holler.
Sad thing is, that's probably exactly how it
happenned. Ah Dylan, eat your heart out.
Probably the last post of the year. Things kinda
quiet for the holidays. Northerners have one
more show in Dec. in Brooklyn. We'll get that
up on the concerts page shortly. Been writing
some new songs - titles: "Once" "Ghosts"
"I Made It To Saturday Night" some
others. Things maybe starting to gel in terms
of a theme for next cd. However, it's still
a ways off. Maybe by early Summer '06. Have
a great holiday and new year.
June
24, 2005 -
Off
to PA and Boston tomorrow for two shows. Some
rarities coming out of the woodworks as well
as reworked "standards." Nice to rediscover
songs. Not sure what the plans are for next
cd. Lots of ideas, several songs but thinking
of a cohesive direction either song-wise or
at least production-wise. No rush. Cranked out
4 albums in the last 4 years, waiting a bit
longer for this one possibly. Looks like another
Foundry reunion show set for Aug. 20 in NYC.
More details to follow. Not much to write. Sorry!
Hope to see you in Harrisburg or Boston this
weekend! Oh, worst songs / video's seen this
past week or so: "The Closet" by R.
Kelly - Give me a fucking break. And "Chicken
with the Train" by Cowboy Troy and Big
and Rich. Nashville's really cranking out the
manure this year.- - Doug
April 27 , 2005 - So what took you
so long? I know. Well, seeing my track record
for posting, I can't promise ANYTHING. Not a
tremendous amt. to report. Foundry has an upcoming
gig. I've formed a semi-official band with some
friends called "The Northerners."
We'll see how that goes. We may invite some
other folks into the "circle of trust"
for that as well. Maybe on a rotating basis.
Got the new Springsteen cd today, it's great.
Highly recommended. Got some new equipment in
the studio as well. Always looking to up the
audio. Got some gigs coming up. Been writing
a bit for my next cd. Let's see my prediction
for when it will come out... Oct. 2005. Which
means, December of course. Lot's to do, little
time. Okay, check out the concerts page for
upcoming shows. Thanks to all those folks who
continue to buy my cd's. -Doug
January
4 , 2005 - So I guess this is looking
like a once a month type of thing. Let's see..
Well, first and foremost, we raised $135 for
the Tsunami victims at our NYC show the other
night. It was donated to the Red Cross today.
Thanks to all who came out and bought cd's!
The band and I had a great time, the crowd was
great. Thanks to Case 150 as well. As you can
see, my grandmother passed away in Dec. The
whole month before that was a life changing
experience for me, caring for her, ups and downs,
seeing her not up to where she had been for
so many years. She was 93. As you can imagine,
I wrote several songs about it, some of which
I'm sure will be on the next cd. Found some
original lyrics of "Wilmington." I
always find it interesting to see others original
lyrics and how they differ from the final song.
So here's some:
Headed
down into Wilmington, Headed down into Wilmington,
With you, my companion for the night, Headed
down tonight
Well, this is what I came here for, out of bed
and through the door, 6am you're out the door
as the city comes alive
This is why it takes so long, Sky is like an
ice cream cone, Red light shines bright and
cold, Over Wilmington tonight
Also
had: That red sign's like a second sun this
morning, Lookin' down Delaware Ave.
Something
like that anyway. Alright. There'll be some
shows in Jan. but nothing major. Hopefully new
album by mid year or perhaps earlier! Talk soon.
- Doug
December
3, 2004 - Just checking in here.
I guess I haven't had much to say huh? Maybe
it's taken me this long to recover from the
"election." Deep breath... Been writing
a bit for "the next" cd. Whenever
that may be. Let's see..let's pick a release
date for that one..how's December 13th, 2005?
Let's go with it! Hmm..let's go with a title
here.. How about "Return of the Jester,"
or "Do Not Eat." Those are some album
titles me and / or my friends have come up with.
I'll tell ya some more each post. Anyway, you
should start seeing some reviews and / or articles
about Silver Meteor in the next month
or two in some cool mags and publications. If
you're reading this, you probably read the two
new reviews. Oh..two shows coming up. Local
LI show at the Pisces Cafe with my friends Alli
Collis and David Matthews on Dec. 23rd. and
then the "big shew" on Dec. 30th in
NYC at The Baggot Inn. That maybe the last NYC
show for a while as other things will occupy
my time for several months. (Besides of course
working hard on that Dec. 13th, 2005 release
date.) Wanted to also thank the folks from around
the globe who've been buying the cd on - line.
Lets see..places so far: United Kingdom, Germany,
USA, Italy, England, Japan and Netherlands.
There's been a steady stream of folks buying
the cd each week and it's a great feeling. So
THANKS! Alright, that's all for now.
October
29, 2004 - Well, happy Halloween
everyone. Still waiting to hear about more shows
- will let you know soon. Did y'all see the
story about me in The News Journal? Pretty cool.
Thanks to the auther, Ryan Cormier. He's a cool
dude. He's got an interesting blog too at; http://www.delawareonline.com/blogs/cormier.html.
Saw the lunar eclips last night. Pink moon.
Here's some artists I think are worth hearing:
Rorie Kelly, John-Flor Sisante, Alli Collis,
Austin Kuebler and of course, Ray Lamontagne.
Do searches on them - listen!
Lately I've been thinking about towns and cities
and how these places "belong" to each
generation that uses them. Like when my grandparents
and their WHOLE family lived in Brooklyn. But
then, over many many decades, slowly, people
either leave, or die, and that generation fades
away. And during that fade away period, a new
generation of folks slowly fills in and then
the city is theirs to own. And the city provides
for them. It's almost as if the city gives itself
to each new generation of people. The city remains.
Today, my brother and uncle brought my grandmother
up to NY (from FLA). She lived in Brooklyn for
40 years or so and moved down to FLA with my
grandfather about 20 years ago. That whole generation
of family moved down there. They were all there.
But now, after 25 years, most have died. It
seemed they would be there forever. Just like
it seemed they'd be in Brooklyn forever. Besides
my grandmother, who's now 93, only her younger
brother and younger sister are still down in
FLA. At one point all my grandmothers sisters
and brother, with all their husbands and wives
were down there. Maybe 20 people. For a good
while, after they gave away Brooklyn, FLA was
theirs to own. And they did, they made the most
of it they loved it. Except for my grandfather.
I think he missed us the most. He died Feb.
1990 and now we miss him. I miss him. Anyway,
now they're almost all gone and a new generation
of older people now claim the state for their
own. But they're people I don't know.

October 13, 2004 - Hello. Well 1,995
miles later I'm back in NY again. Looks like the
upcoming show in Philly will complete the first
phase of dates supporting Silver Meteor. We'll
let you know when more dates are announced. The
dates in Buffalo, Grand Rapids, Chicago and Pitt
were a blast. Had a great time and met some cool
friends. Thanks to all involved. The cd is officially

September
29, 2004 - This month has been a
real whirlwind. As you can see, I have a new
CD which I'm excited about and I hope you like
too. While it seems like it came together rather
quickly, it really started to develop right
after the completion of Halfway House. I basically
just started writing, and I had a song or two
that I knew I wanted to use for a follow up.
As I wrote each new song, I recorded it right
away. Some I did by myself, and some with friends.
So in actuality, this cd has been in the works
for about a year. I think it's a bit more focused
than Halfway House but that's up for you to
decide. Other than that, I bought a minivan
which should make things a bit more comfortable
and easier for touring. Getting that on the
road had some interesting twists and turns as
well as the guy who sold it to me screwed up
the title by writing in the wrong place. But
it's all in the past now and it's on the road!!
Rock and Roll!
I'm
looking forward to touring with Silver Meteor.
I think for many of the dates, Chris Luard will
accompany me on upright bass. That's all for
now - stay tuned and don't forget to VOTE!

8/15/04 - Lots
and lots going on. Will all be announced within
the next few weeks. Hang on. Recent shows all
going well. Oh yeah...here's some news I can
tell you about.. The original members of Foundry
are reuniting for a one-time show on Sat. Sept.
11th, 4pm at the Port Jefferson Jazz and American
Music fest. in Port Jefferson, Long Island.
Go to Foundryband.com
for more info on that. That should be really
fun. Old Crow Medicine show. Now that's some
baaaaaaaad ass music. Things are all wrapped
up with Alli Collis' cd and her other half,
David Matthews. (not that one.) Good folks good
music! Alright, more updates soon.
7/25/04

Well
hey! We've had a great and busy July. Many shows
in PA. Would like to thank Case
150 for the cool shows in the Harrisburg
area and Soda
Jerk playing with us at the Club Cafe in
Pittsburgh. Shows in NYC went well. Really enjoyed
the Cornelia St. Cafe show. Thanks for Valerie
for setting that one up! There may be some exciting
news on the horizon, will let you know if it
comes through. Also, things are progressing
along on the new cd. Thanks for all the support!
Stay tuned for more.

It's
1:28am. Up again. Last night I saw maybe the
best live performace I've ever seen. Certainly
in the top 2 or 3. I don't say this lightly,
having see some of the most revered peformers
in the world. His name is Ray
Lamontage. Click on his name to get to his
web site. There are 2 song samples. I think
he just got signed so look for an album soon.
All I can say is that his performance, songs
and voice nearly brought me to tears. There
was not a sound from the audience of around
150 for his entire set, except for the rousing
applaus. Truly inspiring. He opened for Tim
Easton. Who was great as was his band, Roosavelt.
But Ray Lamontage, who I hadn't heard of before
last night, man...

Thanks everyone for coming out to the PA shows.
Special thanks to Jason Baldinger from WRCT. Great
guy. Had a great time. One of the highlights was
the Rodin Museum. (See Gates of Hell to the right.
Next album title??? Nah..) Been wanting to visit
my old buddy Auguste for about 15 years since
I graduated from art school. Figured if I couldn't
make the one in Paris, this was pretty close,
and it was. Amazing. Will try to put more pics
up soon. Show in Huntington LI this Sat. with
Seth
Davis and David
Karp. Another song recorded for next album.
Cool. Alli
Collis in studio today with yet another new
song. Alright quit it already Alli! And they're
all so freakin' good too. Her cd is shaping up
to be a great one. Hopeful late Summer release
I guess. Oh, Springsteen tribute show was great
too.
4/13/04
- One month to
the day. Thanks all who came to the Brooklyn concert.
It was great. New member Chris Luard on upright
bass was great, as was Mark Spencer and Mike.
Looking forward to PA mini tour and Springsteen
tribute. (Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon.) Another song written
and recorded for new cd. This one features Mark
Spencer on lap steel and electric - with some
production ideas as well. Check out the concerts
page for all the tour / show info. More info on
the Worcester show too.
3/13/04
- My
my hey hey, another journal post today.. Not
much to say..though.. New song written today.
One more towards new cd. Will probably cover
a couple of friends songs too this time. Why
not - they're amazing. As I mentioned, PA mini
tour is coming together. 2 dates definite, one
pending. Will let y'all know. Got the new Edie
Brickell cd.. Good stuff. Remember to vote!
3/6/04
- Hi. Another update. Guess they're
coming about once every two months now! Lots
of new things coming up. New PA shows in the
works - including in-studio radio appearance
in Pittsburgh. Like to personally thank Bruce
Ross at KZSU
in CA and Jason Baldinger at WRCT
in Pittsburgh for the consistant week to week
airplay. Thanks guys. There is a live DVD in
the works but we're having label problems so
more to be done on that. NYC area concerts..looks
like a big show coming up at Cafe 111 in Brooklyn
with the full band. More on that early next
week. Rediscovering Jackson Browne. What an
amazing songwriter. Austin, Mike and friends
going to see Grant Lee Phillips tonight - should
be a good show. I'm saving my money for JB at
the Beacon. Mark (S) is unloading PA equipment
as I write this up in an icy Vermont. "and
quit show business?" Writing has begun
for the follow up to Halfway House. One definite
song completed, another one looks promising
and many ideas floating around. Alli Collis'
cd coming out great - Excellent train stories
involving beer and pants. Cya.
01/19/04
- Yeah it's been a while. Just got
back from VA. Had a great show with Foundry's
old buddies Idle Ride. I'll have them up for
a Foundry show or solo show soon. Great guys.
Foundry's looking for a new drummer. Know anyone?
As you can see and hear from the email updates,
the new CD is getting around. (Reviews / Airlplay)
Just got two more reviews, should be up soon.
Trying to write, but hard with all the promotion.
Anyway, thanks to all that have been supporting
the cd and shows etc.. Should be doing a tv
spot soon for Indies Insider (same folks as
radio show.) Just saw great band in NYC the
other night. The Mammals. Nice folks and great
old timey country / folk stuff. Saw them on
Mountain Stage first and had to check them out.
Go to www.themammals.net
and check 'em out for yourself. Working with
Alli
(Collis) in the studio. Great new songs, coming
along slow but steady. Austin's
too.
Okay, thanks. Stay tuned for more shows and
more videos. CD party when great. Thanks to
Mark Spencer, who I'm sure will be joining me
again sometime for another show or two. -dk
11/24/03
- As you can see, the cd is released!
Had fun in PA on Sat. Thanks to all the fans
there. Looking forward to touring this Spring.
10/30/03
- Well..ironically, I write this
two days before the next Worcester show. Looking
forward to it. Heading on up with my buddy Austin
Kuebler and my new drummer Mike Silliman. Oh..and
yeah, it's finally ready! That's right, mid-November
it will be here..the new CD. Right on time for
Christmas..or Chanukah. Alli
Collis in the studio working on next cd.
Amazing finger-picker. Great songs and poetry.
Foundry's cd also looking like mid Nov. two
CD's in one month after 2 years of nothingness.
Well had to make Nov. special for my birthday
I guess. Looks like Foundry's Cd release party
comes Nov. 21st in NYC. If we get it back in
time. The Halfway House release party will be
sometime in Dec. Cd should be here mid Nov.
Thanks! More to come.
8/06/03
- Worcester show was really cool.
Great place - Java Hut. Coffee house with a
decent stage, nice people. Actually it was a
cool weekend. Show went well, we saw Masked
and Anonymous too. (New Dylan movie.) Really
funny movie. We saw the movie and then at our
gig there was a huge Dylan poster hanging over
stage. I'll post some soon. Also saw Jimmy Ryan,
Tim Easton and Steve Wynn in Boston on Friday
before show. Really good. Jimmy Ryan was awesome.
I think Tim Easton thinks I'm stalking him.
Tim I'm not - I'm just conversationally impaired!
Anyway, that was a great show and he's a great
guitar player. More work is being done on the
cd, it's almost done. Just some fine tuning
to go and waiting for some news. Possibly looking
at a late Sept. release with NYC release party.
OH...Also met Nils Lofgren at a rest stop in
CT on the way up to Mass. Springsteen was doing
a show in Foxboro that night. As I'm walking
out I see Nils and Gary Tallent walking towards
me. I went up to Nils while he was hanging out
by his limo and said hi. That was cool. Bye.
Hey check out Austin
Kuebler. Good friend of mine and maybe the
best indie lyricist in the Northeast.
7/31/03
- Hello. Heading off to Mass. for
a show in Worcester this Sat. with Austin Kuebler.
Mike Leuci accompanying me on guitar. Progress
on both cd's. Hoping for late Sept. with NYC
cd release parties for both.
6/22/03
- Well, except for being horribly
sick for 21-days now, things are going well
musicwise. Thanks to everyone who came out to
see the show w/ Sara Brenner and Feverfew last
night. It was a great crowd which made for a
great show. No new news to report really...be
in touch soon. - dk
6/05/03
- Well, how-dee! Sorry y'all for being negligent
in my entries here. Really busy and feeling
that southern comfort as I just got back from
the east coast tour with Sara Brenner. Lots
and lots of driving. Fun. Atlanta traffic almost
as bad as NY. Freakin' construction! Anyway,
tour went well. Met some great great great people.
Wanted to thank Sara with all my heart for being
an amazing traveling buddy and an amazing musician.
She brought some wonderful harmonies and musicianship
to my songs. I only hope I did 1/2 as much for
hers. She's also a trooper as she had the flu
the entire tour. (Hence, I have it now, but
it only struck me on the last night.) I also
wanted to thank Starbaby (esp. Chris - guitar
god) and all their friends who made our show
/ stop in Tampa a wonderful experience. Thanks
to Tracy for giving us her hotel room. You are
truly a life saver. Thanks to Marty Lloyd and
Shane - great guys, great show. Sorry couldn't
make it to the Bottom Line yesterday, got home
late and very sick! Thanks to all the venues.
Solo gigs and Foundry gigs continue. Slow but
steady progress on the cd's. Yes it's taking
forever. Should have some video footage of Atlanta
show up soon. May have some other cool news
soon. Thanks! - dk
4/17/03
- Quick note before I head on out for the holidays!
Had our first Feverfew rehearsal, went great!
Looking forward to the gig. Looks like Shaun,
our new Foundry drummer is working out. Really
good drummer and really good guy. We should
be rockin' soon! Show at Mermaid in PA was okay.
Cool place. Got the tracks from Mark Spencer,
mixed a bunch in on "Range" and "Halfway
House." Killer lap steel - sounds really
good. Well, cya.
4/12/03
- Show at Pisces went well. Looking forward
to show in PA on Monday with Austin Kuebler.
Looks like the east coast tour w/ Sara Brenner
is on. I'll have more details about that soon.
Also looks like another side project may be
in the works with Austin and Alli Collis. Word
is it will be called "The Feverfew Project."
I'm sure that will be a "once in a while"
type gig - but should be fun. I think we're
going to do a set at the C-Note in NYC on May
22.
4/3/03
- Recording with Mark Spencer went well. He
wound up playing on 3 tracks of the upcoming
cd. Having some trouble getting the audio files
to read in my computer. He's a mac guy and I
work on PC. Will get it straightened out. He's
got a nice new Gretsch! Makes me miss mine.
Had to sell my 63 Nashville Model many years
ago. Oh well.
4/2/03
- Well, I've decided to try and do this journal
thing because I've seen it on other sites and
it seems pretty cool. Seems like most of the
time what happens is that people stop writing
in them after a while. That will probably happen
here too, but we'll see.
Tomorrow
morning I'm heading to Mark Spencer's studio
in NYC so he can lay down some guitar on a couple
of my tracks. You may remember he did the same
with the first Foundry album and they came out
great. Really looking forward to hearing what
he's going to play.
Yes
the CD is coming out. And yes, the Foundry CD
is coming out too. I know we're (I'm) awful
bad at getting things out on time. Got no excuses
except just being busy and having things take
10 x longer than expected. That being said things
are moving along and hopefully both CD's will
be out soon.
We've
auditioned a new drummer to replace Mike, who
left Foundry to pursue his own music and to
play guitar with me on some "solo"
shows. So far the new guy (after only one rehearsal)
seems really good. I'll write more about him
later if things work out. Sad to see Mike go
from Foundry, but looking forward to playing
guitar with him.
Lastly,
on the concert front. There's some shows coming
up in the NY area as well as one show in PA.
Check out the concert page. There's also talk
of a small tour down to Florida and back with
my friend Sara Brenner. I'll let you know if
that comes about. Foundry's got some cool shows
coming up in late April and in the Summer too.
Oh,
one more thing..finally got a J-45 acoustic
guitar. Love it. Got a great deal in Harrisburg,
PA while Foundry was touring down there. Putting
in an IBEAM pickup. Heard good things about
them. Later. -dk
